Writing Programs

Even if you don’t major in English, it is important to develop good written and verbal communication skills. Whether you become an engineer or business administrator, you’ll have to draft letters, write e-mails, and prepare presentations. If you don’t have good writing skills, this can pose a challenge. For this reason, many colleges and universities offer different writing programs. Upon acceptance into a college or university, some institutions require students to pass an entrance exam. This written test is necessary to access a student’s writing level. Those who don’t pass the examination must take basic writing courses. This helps to improve their grammar and sentence structure. Additionally, before graduating, students must pass a written exit examination, which ensures that they have mastered basic written skills.

Writing programs are also available to students who plan to major in English. Most institutions, from community colleges, to liberal arts colleges to research universities, offer a variety of programs. For example, a student can focus on journalism, creative writing, literature, and much more.  After receiving an acceptance notification, students must make an appointment with an entrance counselor.  During this meeting, English majors will chose a particular focus, and the counselor will provide course information on the program. Writing programs vary. In addition, students can pick and choose their own courses.

The different writing programs available prepare students for life after graduation. Many fields and corporations need strong writers. For this reason, businesses prefer job applicants who demonstrate excellent written communication skills. You’ll be able to find a job as a staff writer for a local newspaper, newsletter writer for an organization, copywriter, editor, proofreader, and more. The  possible employment choices are varied. Of course, to qualify for such jobs, you must successfully complete a program. With your degree in hand, you’ll be able to find a great and enjoyable job. Anyone who plans to look for a writing job should also have great clips or samples.
