Private School

A Private school is an independent school. They are not controlled or governed by local, state or national government.  Private schools retain the right to choose their student body and they are generally funded in whole or in part by charging for tuition rather than depending upon public (state) funds. 

A Private school in North America covers the whole scope of instructive activity. Private schools vary from pre-school to higher level institutions. Annual tuitions at K-12 schools vary from zero at tuition-free schools to more than $40,000 dollars at numerous boarding schools.

A private school can also be considered to be preparatory schools or "prep schools", boarding schools and day schools. High tuition is said to be used to pay higher salaries for the best teachers and to provide enhanced academic learning environments providing a low student to teacher ratio, small class sizes and services such as libraries, science laboratories, and computers for students. In addition, some private schools are boarding schools and military schools.

Many religiously affiliated or denominational schools are also categorized as private schools. Religious private schools teach religious lessons in addition to usual academic subjects to teach their particular faith's beliefs and traditions to the students.
Many denominations still maintain a fine dissimilarity between academics and religion. A private school can also include parochial schools, often denoted as Catholic Christian schools. Additional religions represented in the K-12 private education division include Protestants, Jews, Muslims, and the Orthodox Christians.

A private school may be an excellent option for many students to acquire a superior education.  Every individual circumstance is different; therefore, parents must assess their needs as well as their child’s personal needs to decipher whether a private or public school would be the best answer for their child’s educational needs to be satisfied.
