Physical Education Lesson Plans

Physical education, most often called “P.E.” is a necessary class so that students can learn the foundations of good physical fitness. Most school offer some sort of physical fitness class for their students, however, time in P.E. is usually limited to once a week in the elementary schools. If you are a gym teacher and you are looking for ways to get your kids interested in good health, then here are some fun ideas.

Not Just Laps:
It is very common for gym teachers to have their students walk or run laps around the gym as part of their physical education lesson plans. This is fun for some kids, but other kids will complain. There are ways that you can make walking laps more interesting. One way is to make laps a group effort. For example, set a number of laps that your students can reasonably walk within a certain time frame, say, 400 laps in four weeks. Make a lap charts and mark each lap completed by every student. When the students finally reach their 400 lap goal then offer them some sort of reward, such as a free gym day or extra credit.

Another idea that you can add to your physical education lesson plans is to help raise money for your school while keeping your kids fit. Host a walk-a-thon and have the kids collect pledges for each lap they run. For example, if every student got $1 for each lap and they each completed 10 laps, that is easily $10 per student donated directly to the school. This is a great way to make your physical education lesson plans interesting and beneficial. You are getting the students excited about moving and exercising while raising money for the school or for new gym equipment. It is that easy.
