Phonics Lesson Plans
A student that has a firm grasp on the basic concepts of phonics will become a better reader and will do better with writing and spelling. It is extremely important to teach phonics at a young age and continue to build on these skills as the student progresses. If you are looking for instructional activities for your phonics lesson plans, here are three activities that will help you teach these skill and help your students learn to read faster.
Phonic Songs:
When you are teaching a young child the basic of phonics, you will start out teaching very basic sounds. These are sounds that are often found in high frequency and sight words. Your students should not only understand how these phonics sounds, but they must also be able to take these phonic sounds and understand how they work in relation to other sounds. This is what makes your students more successful. One way to do this is to add some phonic songs to your phonics lesson plans. Songs that teach a child about vowel sounds, ending letters and middle letters will help them relate those sounds when reading. Songs help promote memorization as well.
Phonic Games:
There are several helpful phonic games that will teach your child to read. Make index cards with high frequency words and play a game similar to “Uno”. The child must match their word with what is on the table, or they must draw a new card. Games such as Scrabble Junior and Boggle Junior are also excellent for beginner readings. Add these to your phonics lesson plans for success.
Computer Games:
Kids love the computer, so why not make their computer time a learning opportunity. Look for games that are specifically designed for the beginner read and one that teaches phonics in a fun and educational way.
