Nursing Continuing Education

Nursing continuing education is an excellent choice for people who want to have leadership roles in the health care system.  They are able to expand both knowledge and practice of nursing science when pursing continuing education.  Especially with a doctorate in nursing, you can work in government, public policy organizations, health care companies or hospitals and health care facilities.  With a nursing continuing education, opportunities are limitless. 

You will need your transcripts, GRE test scores, letters of recommendation, and fellowship or loan.  Once you have everything you need together, gather information on schools that offer nursing continuing education programs.  Find available schools in the geographic area you would prefer going to.  Review all of their admissions criteria on Nursing Ph.D. programs carefully.  Some prerequisites may require completion of both the bachelors and masters degree in nursing at accredited institutions.  An active professional nursing license may also be required.  You should get advice about preparation for graduate school by meeting with a peer mentor, or by a student already enrolled in you chosen degree field.  This way you can ask questions and get answers about specific courses and programs. 

Once you receive the admission packages and information from the schools you have chosen, look over the information especially for financial aid.  Review the packages and narrow your possibilities down to a maximum of three schools.  Register at an education testing service to take the graduate record exam.  Most universities require the GRE exam scores as part of the application process for nursing continuing education programs such as the Doctorate in Nursing degree.  Major bookstores or your local library may have study preparation materials and study guide downloads to help you study for your test.  Once you have completed the admissions process, send in your application.  If you are accepted into a school, it takes roughly five years to finish the required classes and research.
