National Education Association
The National Education Association (NEA) is fully committed to improving America’s education from pre-school to college. This organization is comprised of over 3.2 million members, which is comprised of public school teachers and higher learning staff. Although membership is not required in some school districts, it is highly recommended that educators and faculty join the Association. Throughout the years, the National Education Association has endeavored to improve school systems across the nation. They offer resources to help parents, teachers, and the community.
Parental involvement is a vital part of a child's education. As important as the classroom environment is, the home environment influences a child even more. It has been proven that children tend to perform better in school when their parents are involved in their education. To encourage involvement, the National Education Association offers several recommendations such as reading to children, reviewing homework each night, attending parent-teacher conferences, becoming an advocate, and setting specific academic standards. Although small, these steps produce great results, and parents are always aware of their child’s academic standing.
The National Education Association also promotes community outreach programs, which are purposed to provide better education to minorities. Their goal is to make sure that all schools have adequate funds for books, supplies, and other educational materials. In addition, the NEA works to decrease classroom size. What’s more, the organization understands the value of quality teachers. To keep good teachers, the organization works to increase teacher salaries. Lastly, by means of the community outreach program, the NEA wants to create better curriculums for students and better programs for foreign students.
The NEA also strives to help college-bound students afford tuition. Since college is costly, is it important to offer various financial aid programs. For this matter, students can take advantage of more than 8 billion dollars in grants and scholarships, or apply for Federal student aid. With so many programs available, there is aid available for everyone. Federal loans are ideal because anyone qualifies regardless of income, age, or credit history.
