Middle School Cheerleaders

Recently, many more middle schools across the country have seen young girls reach for their pom poms and flock to become middle school cheerleaders. This has led some to ask the question: are middle school girls to young to be transformed into middle school cheerleaders? Some say there is nothing wrong with showing a little school spirit, while others say that these girls are way too young to be wearing the short skirt cheerleader outfit, and that their attention should be directed towards studying.

Why Middle School Cheerleaders?

In the discussion of whether middle school cheerleaders should be promoted or not, some argue that it simply makes no sense to have middle school cheerleaders since there are usually no major organized sports or activities in most secondary schools. However, others argue that cheerleading is a sport unto itself that requires considerable gymnastic skill and ability. Although most middle schools do not have a cheerleading squad, the issue of middle school cheerleaders has come up before, and even earlier with the popularity of cheerleading among younger, elementary school-aged girls. Some argue that middle school cheerleaders are simply too young to be involved in cheerleading, while others argue that it is a healthy pursuit that can help young girls stay active and involved in a hobby.

Academics vs. Cheerleading –The Debate Rages On

One of the most prominent criticisms of the middle school cheer leaders debate is that this kind of extracurricular activity diverts too much attention away from more academics and other pursuits. However, some argue that cheerleading is a good way to get young girls active and involved in a better rounded pursuit. Another argument that is made in favor of middle school cheerleaders is that it is a healthy activity that keeps kids busy and preoccupied and away from other less wholesome pursuits.
