Masters in Education

Ever since you were a child, you were undoubtedly told the importance of having a quality education.  You may have prepared for college since elementary school, and if your dream was to become a teacher or a professor, then you knew that a quality education was the key to your goals.  However, many people don’t realize the importance in extending their college education to include a Masters in Education degree.  For any student who is interested in teaching in a higher learning facility, obtaining your Masters in Education degree will open up a world of teaching opportunities that you would otherwise be unable to reach.

If you are planning on working in higher levels of the education field, you will need to first obtain your Masters in Education degree.  Additionally, before you can successfully obtain your Doctorate, you must have your Masters first.   You will receive your Masters in Education degree between one and two years after you achieve your Bachelor’s degree.  It typically takes four years of school to earn your Bachelors, followed by two years to earn your Masters.  The Masters of Education Degree is abbreviated as: M.ED, M.A.E. and Ed.M.

If you plan to become licensed in the field of education, you may be required to obtain your Masters degree first.  It is a good idea to get your Masters degree young, but there are many ways to continue your education even if you are older, have family commitments, or even if you have a full time job.  Many programs will enable you to receive your Masters degree online and from the comfort of your home.

Typically, the Masters of Education degree is broken down in several branches of study.  These are the fields of Counseling, Academic Education, Higher Education, Adult Education, Educational Administration, Guidance Counseling, and Student Affairs.
