Learning Style Test

Children process information in a variety of ways and it is always interesting to see how they do it. Some will focus in and gaze at something intently while another is listening and learning. Then there are the kids who seem to get into everything. They are the ones who learn using a hands-on approach. Sometimes a learning style test is needed to accurately determine how a child learns.

A mismatch in styles between the teacher and a child occurs often. An adult cannot easily change the way they present the information so the burden to adapt often lies in the child. While a learning style test can help determine how a child learns, the teacher has to be willing to be more cognizant of the lessons at hand and work hard at presenting the information in more than one way.

When child does not have a teacher who is willing to work on their teaching technique to try and reach them, this creates a problem. A seemingly bright child will start to do poor work, become bored and eventually drop out of school as the years go by without positive intervention.

Tactile or kinesthetic learners have it the toughest. They are often misdiagnosed with attention deficit order with hyperactivity simply because they cannot sit still to learn. They have to have their hands on something in order to absorb the present information. Tactile children do best in computer classes and things that require hands-on technical skills like biology dissections. Given proper guidance, kids who learn by doing can excel.

Auditory learners discover through the learning style test that they do their best when they are listening to lectures. They tune into the sound of the teacher’s voice with its inflections and pitch. These auditory children often will read aloud to absorb a story or study for tests.

A learning style test may also reveal a child as a visual learner. They learn by seeing and often picture things in their head for better recall and associations. Diagrams and illustrated textbooks are made for them as they learn best by having visuals presented to them.

An adaptable teacher will work successfully with all children, regardless of the results of their learning style test. They are cognizant of all learning styles and work hard to incorporate each and every one of them somehow into their lectures.
