Learning Leadership

The secret of an effective leader is that they are always learning and evolving based in new experiences – both winning as well as losing ones. Learning leadership takes a conscious effort, one that stems from the relationships with both positive and negative people. They learn how to parcel out the negative, derogatory chafe, learn from it and then spin it positively to make a difference.

There are four basic lessons that many leaders take away when it comes to effective learning leadership. First of all, the best teacher to you is yourself. Second, as a leader, you need to acknowledge responsibility for your thoughts and actions as well as what you absorb through learning. There is no one else to blame but you.

The third part of effective learning leadership is that you can learn whatever you want to learn; there are no limits, except for the ones you make. Finally, you can only form real understanding from looking back to your personal experiences. Learning effectively should focus on where you will end up rather than the process it takes to get you there, at least to an extent.

Learning leadership integrates not only people but also many other factors like expediency, technology and awareness of self. A smart leader will realize that the relationships between people – like managers and employees – will be the defining factor in many business relationships as technology only goes so far to solve a problem. It is the people that are the ultimate difference.

Some people might say that learning leadership also encompasses autonomy of the learning leader. It is the independence, the ability to make their choices that makes a difference just as much as the ability to be able to recognize self-critical thinking and communicating it as necessary. Self-deprecation is not what is being hinted about here but the ability to recognize their faults and acknowledge them will help a leader grow in their position.
