Learning and development are broad terms used in the business sector these days. Continuing education is important to employees in that it helps update their skill set as well as expose them to new experience that will aid them in their career. In addition, continuing education helps the employee learn more effectively. The distance or online learning allows employees to add to their workplace education on their own time and at their own pace.
Coaching is a big part of learning and development, especially when you have new hires to integrate into the company. The coaching links new employees to those with seniority so that they can learn more effectively while on the job from someone who already knows the company policies and culture. Coaching also addresses the individual’s style of learning and boosts the confidence of the new employees.
Learning and development at the management level is essential as well. Business is always evolving so even the higher-ups need refresher courses now and then to stay on top of their game. Learning at this level encourages cooperation, decision-making, changing priorities and even forecasting.
